The San Diego Diplomacy Council and the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum invite San Diego residents and visitors to their table for a taste of varied Chinese regional cuisine and a dialogue on U.S.-China culinary diplomacy.

The San Diego Diplomacy Council has spent the last 40 years creating professional, cultural, and educational experiences that connect San Diego with the rest of the world, in order to build trust, dialogue, and peace.

We, at the San Diego Chinese Historical Society and Museum are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the SDDC to present "Culinary Diplomacy Between the U.S. and China: How Food Bridges Divides and Forges Peace."

The event will feature food from local restaurants representative of different cuisines within China and a discussion facilitated by keynote speaker Dr. Li-Rong Lilly Cheng, Ph.D., on Chinese cultural diversity, cuisine, and how people in China and the United States continue to foster deep links through food and culture, despite rising tensions between the two countries.

"Now more than ever, we need citizens that can navigate both China and America - linguistically, culturally, and perceptually - to improve the U.S.-China relationship at the grassroots level," said Fabienne Perlov, executive director of the San Diego Diplomacy Council.

"It is imperative that our understanding of each other is guided not by our politicians, but by average citizens wanting connections beyond that of the State," added Juliana Gay, executive director of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum.
