The palace of Versailles was conceived by King Louis XIV during the 1660s as a residence and royal pleasure dome which assumed monumental proportions, becoming increasingly important as a center for music. The distinctive elegance and beauty of the French Baroque peels back the curtain on the decadent magnificence of the Sun King's playground.
