Persian Cultural Center presents: Yalda Celebration with Velshodegan Ensemble

Yalda is a winter solstice celebration of great antiquity. It is celebrated in many cultures and nations in Central Asia. As the winter solstice (known as Shab-e Yalda in Farsi) is the shortest day/longest night of the year, Yalda looks forward to days of greater light and prosperity. In places where it is celebrated, families and freinds often gather to eat (particularly fruits such as watermelon and pomegranate, drink, share stories and read poetry (Iran has one of the strongest poetry tradtions to be found anywhere) and play music.
