Two people whose lives could hardly be more disparate meet in Frankfurt’s seedy Bahnhofsviertel district. Monika (mid-40s) is a curator in the city’s art and culture scene. When accidentally caught up in a raid, she meets Joseph, a Congolese businessman keeping himself afloat with import-export deals while searching for investors in a diamond mine in the Congo. An intense love affair grows from their unusual encounter. Although they both believe they can prevail in the face of external pressure and prejudice, distrust gradually seeps into their relationship. Inexorably, their lives become the stage of postcolonial conflicts. Is it even possible for Monika and Joseph to love each other on equal terms?
