San Diego and the entire country depend on immigrants to fill many types of entry-level jobs. This is especially true in the farming, construction, hospitality, and personal care industries. Employers in these industries are already finding it difficult to fill their available positions. We’ll discuss the effects of mass deportation on these industries, the local economy and the concern that families will be separated, resulting in serious mental and financial anxiety.
Speakers include:
Tom Wong, Associate Professor of Political Science and founding director of the U.S. Immigration Policy Center (USIPC) at the University of California, San Diego.
Ian M. Seruelo, Attorney specializing in immigration and employment law. He is the Chair of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium and a Member of Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance/APALA.
Selene Gutierrez will speak about her separated family caused by deportation.
A video about the effect of mass deportation on farming and food supply created by a major network will be shown.
