Enjoy a fun night of reading the play with David Hausman. There will be a Zoom link to join the reading, available on the Online Event page or the "My Tickets" section. David Hausman is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin Drama School. He has performed on-and-off-Broadway and in film and television. He writes screenplays, produces, and directs.

A bit more about the play: Jealous conspirators convince Caesar’s friend Brutus to join their assassination plot against Caesar. to stop Caesar from gaining too much power, Brutus and the conspirators kill him on the Ides of March. Mark Antony drives the conspirators out of Rome and fights them in a battle. Brutus and his friend Cassius lose and kill themselves, leaving Antony to rule in Rome.

A discussion of Film as Witness to the Holocaust: a Vitims' Perspective by Professor Leora Bilsky from the Tel Aviv University Faculty of Law.

Since the 1990s, international criminal law has struggled to find the proper role for victims in mass atrocities trials. It has gradually moved from viewing victims instrumentally in supplying eyewitness testimonies for the prosecution towards recognizing the victims' agency and seeing them as active participants in such trials. in this lecture, Israeli law professor Leora Bilsky considers the complex relationship of testimony and film at the Nuremberg and Eichmann trials. Her analysis centers on how eyewitnesses understood the new role of the camera in the courtroom. What is ultimately at stake in this investigation is a new conception of testimony.

Sierra Club Sierra Talks - 7 Written in the Land: Indigenous Heritage in Southern California: the Imperial Valley and Southern California regions are rich in history. Over 10,000 years, there were a multitude of indigenous groups who called its mountains, deserts, and coastal shores home. the Kumeyaay, Cahuilla, Quechan, Cocopah, and Pai Pai were, and still are, masters of their environments. Their artifacts, tools, artwork, and villages tell a collective story of adaptation, understanding, and ingenuity in a land of extremes. David Breeckner PhD, is the Executive Director of the Imperial Valley Desert Museum, located in the heart of the Yuha Desert in Ocotillo, California. He will share the evidence of stories still visible today.

This month League member Anne Hoiberg will update us on the progress of the U.N.’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in achieving women’s equality. the CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Anne is a delegate of the local United Nations Association to CSW and is a fierce advocate for women locally and around the world.
Anne’s presentation will include a report on the history of the CSW; progress in the twelve critical areas of concern identified by the Beijing Platform for Action; a review of the 2021 “Agreed Conclusions;” and success stories of gender equality from countries worldwide.

For two weeks in March, the CSW hosted more than 25,000 members who participated in more than 700 events. This year’s CSW focused on two issues: ending gender-based violence and scaling up women’s full and effective participation at all levels of decision-making. Representatives from the 193 U.N. member nations negotiated actions to be included in the CSW’s annual “Agreed Conclusions” which was finalized in March.

Warwick's will host David Swinson as he discusses his new book, City on the Edge, in conversation with Kim Howe. David Swinson grew up in Washington, DC, Beirut, Mexico City and Stockholm, the son of a foreign service officer. He is a retired police detective from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, having been assigned to Major Crimes. Swinson is the author of the Second Girl, Crime Song and Trigger. He lives with his wife and daughter in Northern Virginia.

In the wake of a baffling tragedy, 13-year-old Graham moves with his family to Beirut, Lebanon, a city on the edge of the sea and cataclysmic violence. Inquisitive and restless by nature, Graham suspects his State Department father is a CIA operative, and that their family's fragile domesticity is merely a front for American efforts along the nearby Israeli border. Over the course of one year, 1972, Graham's life will utterly change. Two men are murdered, his parent's marriage disintegrates, and Graham, along with his two ex-pat friends, run afoul of forces they cannot understand.
