China?s parliament meets in March to appoint new government leadership and unveil political and policy initiatives for the next five years. A panel of leading China watchers (Alice Lyman Miller, Barry Naughton, Susan Shirk, Tai Ming Cheung, and Jerome Cohen) will assess what the 11th People?s Congress means for the state of politics and the dynamics of leadership succession over the next five years; the direction, pace, and prospects for China?s economic development and reforms; and implications for Chinese foreign policy.
This series of panel talks will take place over the next year, and explores the leadership and political changes in democratic and authoritarian regimes extending across the Asia-Pacific region from Pakistan to Japan and including major outside powers.
The event is brought to you by the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS), the Center on Pacific Economies (CPE), and China Focus.
Location: University of California, San Diego's IR/PS Robinson Building Complex, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla.
