Join us for the first workshop of 2025, celebrating one of the world’s most important and ancient grains: corn!
Originally cultivated by Indigenous farmers in what is now known as Central Mexico, the corn we know today is vastly different from its wild ancestors, which still exist throughout the Americas and the world.
In this class, we will explore the origin and significance of corn in modern human history, as well as its cultural and spiritual importance. Participants will engage in a hands-on experience, transforming dry kernels of corn into masa through the fascinating process known as nixtamalization. After processing the corn, we will grind the cooked kernels to create masa and share traditional masa-based recipes.
Lastly and most importantly, we will take some moments to pause and give thanks to Corn Ancestor for their invaluable gifts while sowing seeds of intention in our hearts for collective well-being for 2025.
