History about the Dragon Boat Racing:
In the Chinese calendar, dragon boat racing is traditionally associated with the eating of rice dumplings. This unusual association arises from the folklore origins of this international sporting festival. During the Chu Dynasty, about 400 B.C., the beloved statesman and poet Chu Yuan protested against the evils of corruption by drowning himself in the Mi Lo River. in an attempt to rescue him, fisherman raced out in their boats, frantically beating drums and thrashing the water to scare away the dragons believed to inhabit the river. When they could not find his body, the fishermen scattered rice on the water to feed his spirit. From then on, the fifth day of the fifth lunar month was marked by boat races with besting drums and rice being thrown into the water. Each year, international dragon boat races are held in major cities throughout Asia and now around the world to commemorate his sacrifice.
