All are invited to a special presentation by Buddhist teacher Bhante Vimilaramsi on Monday, March 5th at 7:00 PM in the Clark Chapel of the First Unitarian Universalist Church across the street from the UCSD Hospital in Hillcrest. Bhante Vimilaramsi will present his teaching on Buddhism East West comparing approaches to Buddhist practice with sensitivity to cultural differences in Asian vs. American communities.
Bhante Vimilaramsi is a recognized Buddhist meditation master and dhamma teacher. Bhante began his meditation practice 30 years ago beginning in California and continued in various Asian countries. Before returning to America, he was a teacher for advanced meditation students in a monastery in Kuala Lumpur. Currently, he heads a
meditation school and retreat center in the Ozark Mountains, known as Jeta's Grove and Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center in Missouri. Bhante received an unprecedented honor by being officially confirmed as the first US Representative to the World Buddhist Summit and World
Buddhist Supreme Conference to be held in Kobe, Japan in the spring of 2007. This Council is charged with the task of bringing together the many traditions of Buddhism in the world by re-examining the earliest Buddhist texts and practices and identifying how they are
still relevant today. Bhante is the author of a book on meditation titled The Anapanasati Sutta: A Practical Guide to Mindfulness of Breathing and Tranquil Wisdom Meditation.
This presentation is a no-fee event although participants, in the Buddhist tradition, will be provided an opportunity to practice dana - i.e., providing a totally free gift or donation for his teachings.
