Assemblymember Mary Salas will be joined by the Union of Pan Asian Communities, community leaders, and the federal Census Bureau to make a call for Asian & Pacific Islander Americans to complete and submit their Census form. The focus will be on the importance of a complete count of Asian & Pacific Islander community members in the 2010 Census. In addition, services such as language assistance resources will be shared to build public awareness about the tools available to make the census more accessible for all community members. The Press Conference will also highlight community activities and outreach efforts to ensure the API community will have a true representation in the 2010 Census.More than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed to state, local, and tribal governments based on the Census count. The Census helps leaders identify where to build new roads, schools, hospitals and more.
