Dr. Babak Rahimi of UCSD's Literature Department discusses the Shahnameh, or Persian Book of Kings. Written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi around 1000 AD, this work is considered the national epic of the Farsi-speaking world. It tells the mythical and historical past of (Greater) Iran from the creation of the world up to the Islamic conquest of Persia in the 7th century.
