Bathukamma festival is one of the most unique festivals that is celebrated by women during Navaratri time in some areas in Andhra Pradesh. Women celebrate this festival by honoring the Goddess Bathukamma seeking her blessings for prosperity and good wishes for the year. Colors, flowers and water are intrinsic to this festival. The goddess herself is not one rooted on the shrine but, made of colorful flowers. This Goddess Bathukamma is created each day of Navaratri festival and they celebrate by dancing around and chanting folk songs. On the 9th day of festival all the women take their Pedda (big) Bathukamma and immerse in local water bodies.
