Ambassador Carmen Lomellin, U.S. Representative to the Organization of American States will present a talk entitled: "Cooperating with Latin America: What it means for the U.S."
Ambassador Carmen Lomellin was confirmed by the United States Senate as Permanent U.S. Representative to the Organization of American States, with the rank of Ambassador, on November 20, 2009. Also at the OAS, Ambassador Lomellin served as Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) from 1998-2009, providing guidance and direction to member states and the Permanent Secretariat on hemispheric policy for the advancement of human rights and gender equality. During the Clinton Administration, she held the positions of White House Liaison for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and Director of that agency?s Office of International Affairs. She was an Advisor on Hispanic Affairs in the Office for Women?s Initiatives and Outreach, as well as Search Manager in the Office of Presidential Personnel during the 1996 presidential transition, where she worked on sub-cabinet appointments in the area of international trade.
Ambassador Lomellin's professional experience extends to local government, non-profit management and the private sector. She worked for the Mayor of Chicago, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and the Chicago United, a civic think tank.
