TUNA! Celebrating San Diego's Famous Fishing Industry

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
TUNA! showcases the time when San Diego was the world?s tuna fishing capital from the 1920s until the 1960s. During this time, many Italian, Portuguese, and Japanese families formed enclaves that thrived along San Diego Bay?each one involved to some degree in the tuna fishing industry working either on the boats, in the canneries, or building the ships and sewing the nets used by the fisherman. This exhibition lets visitors view the world through the eyes of these many families and will experience hands-on pole-fishing demonstration stations, packing and canning activities and take a trip down memory lane with favorite icons of the era like Charlie the Tuna? and others. Hear their stories and experience what it was like to work in this industry that, for a time, made San Diego the center of the tuna fishing universe.
