SAMAHAN, the Filipino American Performing Arts and Education Company will present their 38th Annual Concert of Philippine Dances and Music at the Joan B. Kroc Theater, on October 27, and October 28. Enjoy dances from multiple regions of the Philippines representing the multitude of cultures and historical eras that represent the Filipino heritage. The concert is dedicated in honor of Dr. Lolita Di?oso Carter, SAMAHAN?s Founder and Executive Director, who passed away on July 25, 2011.

The BIBAK San Diego youth group will be presenting ethnic dances and music as traditionally performed by their ancestors in the Cordilleras in the Northern Philippines, such as, Ballang-bang, An-aninit and Salisid. Southern Philippine tribal dances are all performed with live music accompaniment by the Samahan Kulintang Ensemble also known as the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble. The ensemble is one of the very few kulintang ensembles that play the authentic music of the Maguindanao, Maranao, Tausog and Sama tribes of Mindanao in the U.S. Most of the current members of the kulintang ensemble studied Maguindanao and Maranao music under Danongan Sibay Kalanduyan, Master Artist/Teacher of Kulintang Music and under Ethnomusicology graduate, Bernard Ellorin, co-founder of the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble.
