New Yorkers depended on Bronx native, Marty Glickman, the voice of the Knicks and Giants, to bring them as close to the game as if they were there in person. He coined the term ?swish? and made ?top of the circle?, ?the lane? and ?baseline? part of the basketball lexicon. Glickman was an inspiration to millions and made the Jewish community of New York proud when he was chosen as a member of the U.S. track and field team alongside Jesse Owens for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He was dropped at the last minute, in what seemed a blatant move to placate the anti-Semitic hosts.
