The city of San Diego is home to one of the premiere civic dance programs in the nation. San Diego's Civic Dance Arts offers dance classes to thousands of dancers who hail from every neighborhood in San Diego. The best of these dancers audition for one of the select dance companies that receive advanced training including the opportunity to learn from internationally recognized choreographers. Each February these premiere dancers perform their acclaimed Collage program, a two hour show that embraces a wide variety of dance styles and traditions. Student perform jazz, tap, lyrical, hip-hop, modern and contemporary dance numbers but past Collage shows have also featured Bollywood, Latin, Hawaiian, Mexican Folk (Ballet Folklorico), Irish and other international styles.
This year's Collage is entitled: Classic. "A classic is classic not because it conforms to certain structural rules, or fits certain definitions. . . it is classic because of a certan eternal and irrepressible freshness." Edith Wharton
