Italian Film: Caravaggio

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
In March SDIFF will show the Italian biopic, Caravaggio, a lush, very well produced and directed piece that gives us a powerful look inside the life of this genius artist who bent art history (and some say even cinema) in entirely unexpected ways, and who also bent all the rules ? he was a brawler, a drunk, a wastrel, a womanizer more often fleeing the wrath of betrayed husbands than painting, and an artist beloved of the cognoscenti of his times but who died young and alone fleeing and seeking not redemption but a pass for his murders. This film brings us all the brilliance, corruption and squalor of late Renaissance Rome and if you don?t feel like you?re in the midst of amazing times, you probably aren?t at this movie. A special treat is the cinematography of famed Italian lenser, Vittorio Storaro, whose work is always extraordinary.

Admission/Cost: $10; $5 for students and military personnel with I.D. Cash or check only.
