The story leads a school inspector through a bizarre landscape into the castle of The Baron, a tyrant vampire who terrorizes the inhabitants of a mountainous region. The inspector is dragged into a shapeless night full of mythological figures and Plebian terror.
During the Second World War an American crew took refuge in Lisbon and began filming The Baron, a short story by Branquinho Da Fonseca. The dictator heard about the movie and ordered the film destroyed and the crew repatriated. The Portuguese actors were deported to Tarrafal's concentration camp.
