The David Alan Collection presents Folk Art: Innocence and Simplicity. Hands, Heart and Soul of the People from indigenous tribes and cultures in Indonesia, Japan, Burma, and Thailand. The expansive exhibit will be showcasing more than 100 works of antique and contemporary folk art.
Featured in the exhibit are works of art dating from the early to mid-1900s, as well as pieces over 100 years old. Among the many handcrafted treasures to be seen are: toys and furniture for children; traditional wood slit drums to call villagers for ceremonies and gatherings; protective animals to guard the home by warding off evil spirits; puppets for entertaining the villagers; candle holders for temple offerings; and, colorful Naga, or celestial dragons, that served as corbels to architecturally embellish temple roofs.
