This lecture by Dr. Ive Covaci, of Fairfield University, will consider the history of images of personal devotion in medieval and early modern Japan; what kinds of objects were used; how devotees viewed and interacted with these miniature icons; the relationship between small statues for personal worship and their larger counterparts in temple settings; and more.
