Mariana R. Wardwell, Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art at the University of California, San Diego, will discuss her current research projects. With work ranging from approximately 1850 to the present, Indigenismos: Amerindian Inscriptions in the Art of the Americas will introduce to the Latin American Arts council an exhibition and research project that presents an original revision at the concept of indigenismo, often confined to studies of Mexican modernism, by deconstructing indigenismos and examining its plurality, its historical development, and its continued existence in Latin American modern and contemporary art.
