The Parol Lantern Festival will be held on December 7th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at the Jacobs Center, Celebration Hall and will serve as another special event for the community to donate and show their support for the Philippines and the Typhoon Haiyan victims.
PASACAT will raffle two Parols, Philippine star lanterns made of capiz in which all proceeds will be donated to the Haiyan Typhoon Relief. Another effort includes Spare Change for the Philippines.
The Parol Festival will also serve as a colleciton point for the community to donate items which will be sent via the LBC Foundation.
Joanne Tawfilis is coordinating free community mural project, Healing Hearts for Haiyan, a visual tribute and message of hope for the Philippines. The murals offer unique interactive artistic expressions on canvas in acrylic paint.
So many of us have been emotionally touched by the stories coming from the Philippines, stated Anamaria Labao Cabato, PASACAT Executive Director. Sharing a piece of ourselves through art is a perfect way to heal!
Tawfilis plans to send ten murals to the ravaged areas of the Philippines. The Art Miles Mural Project (www.artmiles.org) is a UNA USA locally based international project and recipient of numerous awards has contributed scores of murals during the past decades to survivors of natural and human disasters.
The beautiful murals provide endearing messages of hope and concern, long after the humanitarian aid disappears. Many of the healing murals have been exhibited in museums throughout the world.
PASACAT anticipates other artists coming forward to offer free services for a donation towards the Typhoon Relief.
