Friends of Taka Sumi-e is an art-based society in San Diego, California, dedicated to studying and sharing the art of Japanese style sumi-e brush painting. It was founded by Takashi Ryuho Ijichi, long-time San Diego Community College art instructor and a leading figure in San Diego?s Japanese cultural community.
The society hosts an annual Art Show & Exhibition. The 12th annual show, with a theme of Year of the Horse, is on March 29 and 30, 2014.
The show will display the power of horses and the beauty of flowers as well as feature ikebana (flower arrangements). Ijichi will exhibit original paintings in both sumi (ink) and Asian watercolors. Highlights will include demonstrations of brush painting, a wearable art fashion show, choral performances, and musical performances of the koto (Japanese stringed instrument) and the shakuhachi (Japanese flute).
