The Joan B. Kroc Distinguished Lecture Series with Karima Bennoune: ?Untold Stories from Women?s Struggles Against Muslim Fundamentalism.?

Karima Bennoune is professor of law and Martin Luther King Jr. Hall Research Scholar at the University of California at Davis School of Law. She is a former legal adviser for Amnesty International. Her book, Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight Against Muslim Fundamentalism, won the 2014 Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Writing it took her around the world to interview nearly 300 people of Muslim heritage from nearly 30 countries -- from Afghanistan to Mali -- about their opposition to fundamentalism.

This event will be the keynote lecture for the "Defying Extremism: Gendered Responses to Religious Violence" conference, held November 19 to 21 at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.
