Come see the San Diego premiere of the latest film by Wayne Wang (Chan is Missing, The Joy Luck Club). In this 78 minute documentary, director Wayne Wang returns to San Francisco's Chinatown, this time to look at one of the most famous Chinese American chefs, Cecilia Chiang, who opened The Mandarin in 1961.
The documentary features interviews with Chiang, Alice Waters, and Ruth Reichl, and features a mouth-watering climactic banquet that captures the modern history of China through food .
Box dinners from Emerald Restaurant, which include Chinese Sticky Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf (Lo mai gai), Chinese Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, and a Sesame Ball with Red Bean, will be served at the movie theatre after the 5:30 PM screening and before the 7:15 PM screening.
