Over 21 million people around the world—1.5 million in North America alone—are trafficked for forced labor or sexual exploitation today; 45,000 to 50,000 people are trafficked into the U.S. through the San Diego-Tijuana corridor alone.
Dr. Jay Silverman from UCSD?s Global Public Health division, Mary-Ellen Barrett from the San Diego District Attorney?s office, and Marisa Ugarte, the Executive Director of the Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition, will be leading a discussion about this ongoing tragedy and the ways that the UCSD community can help prevent its continuation.
