The King and I is set against a dazzling and exotic backdrop of Siam in the 1860s. It is the story of Anna, a governess, who tries to help an Eastern king to come to terms with the modern world, but finds himself challenged to resist the forces of ancient customs. The tension between Eastern and Western cultures inspired this popular musical, beloved by audiences the world over.
