The Salk Institute presents an evening of Brazillian Choro music..

Performers:

Neal Amin is a graduate student in the Biomedical Sciences Program at the Salk Institute. He played guitar in rock and indie groups while living in New York City before learning and playing Brazilian styles in San Diego.

UCSD graduate student Vicente Malave studies cognitive science and plays many different percussion instruments.

Roger "Magic Hands" Levy's first performance in La Jolla was in 1993 with the University of Arizona Choir Orchestra. His musical expeditions range from classical to gypsy rock to Scottish fiddle to, now, choro. When he's not making music he does his best to help advance the scientific study of human language.

Eran Mukamel studies neural computation and plays clarinet. He ranges musically from Brahms to Naftule Brandwein to Jacob do Bandolim.

Apua Paquola is a biologist at the Salk Institute. Originally from Brazil, Apua plays guitar and pandeiro.

Justin Roberts is a mathematician, guitarist, singer and all around rock and roller.

Irene Tobias is a graduate student in the Biomedical Sciences Program at the UCSD Department of Pharmacology and plays soprano and tenor sax. She is delighted to have recently joined Choro Cientifico, having previously performed with The Fancypants funk band comprised of UCSD medical residents and graduate students.

Tomoki Tsuchida is a graduate student in the Computer Science and Engineering department. He plays flute and enjoys jazz and Brazilian music.
