A round-table discussion moderated by Deborah Hertz, Herman Wouk Chair in Modern Jewish Studies. Since the catastrophic defeat of Nazi Germany, Germans have been forced to confront their turbulent past. What was it like to grow up in a divided country burdened with the legacy of genocide? How does one deal with guilt and shame? What does it mean to be German today? UC San Diego faculty who grew up in Germany will explore answers to these questions.
