James Larrimore, PhD, served in senior positions at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, for 14 years. He recently returned from a tour in Iran and will on Nov. 19 present ?Iran, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the International Atomic Energy Agency.?
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) went into effect in mid-October, three months after agreement in mid-July by Iran, the U.S., Great Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia, and endorsement shortly thereafter by the UN Security Council. In mid-September, the U.S. Congress did not act to limit President Obama?s actions. Since July, the IAEA and Iran have accelerated cooperation to resolve issues and provide confirmation that Iran is carrying out reductions and modifications to its nuclear program, in advance of JCPOA Implementation Day when sanctions should be removed. If the main players meet their commitments, what happens? If one or more does not, what then? This presentation will address these developments and issues.
