Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
Cy Chadley, Past President and current Deputy President, recently returned from a visit and will inform listeners about the history, culture, and current developments in Mongolia. Chinggis Khan united the Mongols in the 12th Century and founded an empire extending from the Pacific to the Mediterranean. Mongolia later fell under extended Chinese rule. In 1924, Mongol communists, allied with the Soviet Union, took over and tried to expunge the local culture. In 1990, the weakened Soviet empire and substantial public discontent resulted in the removal of the communists from power and institution of a market economy and a democratic political system.
