Music: Nordic Landscapes with Camarada

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
Camarada unveils the essence of the Nordic spirit through music of Edvard Grieg, Carl Nielsen, Christian Sinding, Jean Sibelius and Kalevi Aho. The music
of these composers evokes the fjords, mountains, valleys and vast horizons of the Nordic landscape. Grieg himself said, ?I have used?rapidly changing pictures and surprise alternations, just like the spirit and landscape of our beloved Norway.? Camarada?s smorgasbord of offerings includes Nielsen?s Quintet for Winds, which is considered one of the finest compositions in the woodwind quintet repertoire. British biographer Robert Simpson writes, ?Nielsen?s fondness of wind instruments is closely related to his love of nature, his fascination for living, breathing things.? Grieg is well represented in this Nordic feast with a quintessentially Romantic piano trio and a rustic folk-song medley. Upon hearing, you will soon fall in love with Sinding?s Romanze and Sibelius? charming piano Impromptu. Also represented in the Nordic Landscapes performance is a newcomer to the Scandinavian scene ? Kalevi Aho, one of today?s leading Finnish composers. Aho?s Ballade for flute, bassoon, cello and piano highlights the composer?s ?uncanny instinct for instrumental colors.? From melancholy to jubilant ? this celebration of the Nordic landscape is bursting with contrast and color.
