Talk: Race, Privilege, and Immigration in the U.S.

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, filmmaker and immigration rights activist Jose Antonio Vargas will visit UC San Diego to speak on the topic of "Race, Privilege and Immigration in the U.S." In a June 2011 essay in The New York Times Magazine, Vargas revealed his status as an undocumented immigrant in an effort to promote dialogue about the immigration system in the U.S. His new film, "Documented," chronicles his journey to America from the Philippines as a child, his experiences in America as an immigration reform activist and his voyage inward as he re-connects with his mother, whom he hasn't seen in person in over 20 years. This series is co-sponsored by the UC San Diego Cross-Cultural Center, the Undocumented Student Services Center, and Associated Students.
