The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum (SDCHM) offers a chance to experience history through drama. The first ever theatrical performance at SDCHM will take place on April 2 and April 3, 2016. "Second Chances for Grace" is an original story written and performed by Kiki Yeung, a local Chinese-American, who overcomes obstacles to chase her lifelong dream of becoming an actress. Yeung?s inspiring performance won the ?Hustler Award? at the San Diego Fringe Festival in 2013.
About the Play:

"Second Chances for Grace" is one of many immigration stories that conveys what is it like to pursue the American Dream. In the past, early Asians to California arrived after hearing rumors about the Gold Rush in the mid-1800s. The Chinese immigrants left in pursuit of a chance for a better life; however, as witnessed in SDCHM?s exhibitions about San Diego?s early Chinese population, it wasn?t that simple. Chinese immigrants faced discrimination, anti-Chinese violence and exclusion acts until WWII. These people were able to overcome adversity and create a better life or the ?American Dream? for their descendants.
Yeung?s one-woman show is a contemporary re-telling of this story. Morphing in and out of eight characters, writer and actress Kiki Yeung takes you on her journey as an immigrant from Hong Kong trying to be in actress in America. Infused with comedy, drama, song and dance, this powerful drama addresses determination, healing, and chasing the new American dream.
