Stage: The Boy Who Danced on Air

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
Diversionary Theatre stages a world premiere musical about a difficult subject - the Afghani practice of bacha bazi.

Set in Afghanistan the show centers on the illegal - but still practiced - tradition of wealthy older men who buy boys from poor families. The boys are then trained to dance and parade around at parties like property, and are often sexually abused.

?The Boy Who Danced on Air? follows the story of Paiman and Feda, two boys who have spent their lives within the tradition. They meet by chance, develop feelings for each other and go on a journey toward making a new life.

It's a fable that touches on the country's politics, tradition and human spirit.
