Music: Inuksuit - A Border-Crossing Presentation

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
The San Diego Symphony presents this free concert as part of the It's About Time festival.

Premiered in the Canadian Rockies, John Luther Adams?s outdoor masterpiece, "Inuksuit," is a mirror of the landscape in which it is performed.

It will be played at International Friendship Park with the hopes of revealing the sonic landscape of the border, and qualities of its cultural and social topography.

A bi-national group of Mexican and American percussionists, each performing on their own side of the border wall, will use the international language of sound to reflect a landscape of beautiful sounds, fascinating cultures and close neighbors.

An important note for attendees: The Park is closed to vehicle traffic. To access Friendship Park, all visitors must hike through Border Field State Park, so please plan ahead for a 30-45 minute walk. The hike is 1.8 miles each way, almost entirely on level ground; however half of the walk is through soft sand on the beach. For your health, please follow detour signs and avoid contact with mud and water. Check the Friends of Friendship Park website for detailed instructions on how to get to the park and the border area. Note: because this performance takes place outside on a flood plain in the month of January, this event will be cancelled in the event of any significant rain.

The location can also be accessed (much more easily) via the Mexican side.
