Music: The Ecology of Sound

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
This January, Art of ?lan will partner with the San Diego Art Institute to present The Ecology of Sound: a Collective Exploration of The Language of Things, an evening of music, art and creative experimentation that showcases the wide variety of artistic talent in Southern, and Baja California. The concert is inspired by The Language of Things, an interactive sound and video installation by U.S./Mexico-based multimedia artist Roberto Romero-Molina. The evening explores the idea of communal art and creativity as a dynamic cycle of cultural exchange, not only by connecting performers with composers, listeners with viewers, and teachers with students, but also by fostering conversation between citizens on both sides of the border.

For this collaborative event, original compositions by students and alumni of Art of ?lan's "Young Artists in Harmony" apprenticeship program will be featured alongside the world premiere of Petal by Petal, Leaf by Leaf, a new work by UCSD faculty member and internationally-acclaimed composer Lei Liang. All are invited to attend a pre-concert panel with the artist, performers, and composers, moderated by musicologist Charissa Noble. Following the concert, guests are encouraged to experience the rich sensory world of video and sound of Romero-Molina's installation as well as the other exhibitions on display in the gallery space.
