The 10th annual Brasil Jazz Festa, a celebration of Brazilian jazz and culture, will feature Chico Pinheiro, New York-based guitarist from Sao Paulo. He is a leader in the new generation of Brazilian musicians finding fame in America and around the world.
After turning professional at age 15, he moved to Boston where he received his music degree (summa cum laude) from Berklee. He has recorded with major Brazilian and American jazz and popular artists, and received the Top-10 Album of the Year in 2003 and 2005, as well as DownBeat's Rising Star/Guitar Annual Critics Poll award. He has made his mark internationally by collaborating with Dianne Reeves, Bob Mintzer, Chris Potter, Eddie Gomez, Claudio Roditi, Brad Mehldau and Esperanza Spalding.
Brasil Jazz Festa is honored to feature Chico Pinheiro as the headliner of the 10th annual Festa in commemoration of our first event in 2008, which began as a tribute concert to Chico's compositions.
Also featured in this year's program are acclaimed Fresno mandolinist Eva Scow, as well as San Diego's own Danny Green Trio, which includes Danny Green on piano, Justin Grinnell on bass, Julien Cantelm on drums, and Festa producer and vocalist Allison Adams Tucker.
