Stage: A Little Night Music

The Stephen Sondheim musical at Cygnet Theatre shines exactly how it should. Set in Sweden at the turn of the 19th century, multiple generations of individuals interconnected by love and fate eventually meet at the mansion of an aging matriarch. Class, gender, age, and expectations are confronted as the vocally-gifted ensemble sings its way through Sondheim's challenging lyrics and music. Karole Foreman as Desiree and her rendition of "Send in the Clowns," particularly moves. Flawless design elements, such as costumes by Jeanne Reith, enhance the beauty of an already must-see production.? Review by Jon Reimer
