Alessandro is a 22-year-old turbulent and ignorant slacker from the Trastevere neighborhood in Rome. He lost his mother when he was two and has become the torment of his father?a peddler in Porta Portese, the local flea market?who can?t imagine a future for his idle and furious son and is unable to find the key to his heart.
Giorgio is eighty-five-year-old forgotten poet, living in solitude and restraint in a flat on the Gianicolo Hill, with only the help and care of his landlady and neighbor. He is in an early stage of Alzheimer?s, his mind drifting relentlessly away from the present. The pair live within a stone?s throw from one another, but their paths have never crossed; their lives couldn?t be more distant. But this story joins both of them together when Alessandro is forced to take the job of accompanying the old man on his afternoon walks.
