Synopsis:
A middle-aged Hispanic school teacher decides to attend law school and while there he struggles to protect her brother from deportation. Her protests against deportation at the law school jeopardize her graduation and law degree. Free speech battles free speech.
The Protester was written by Judge Lee Sarokin who served on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey from 1979 to 1994 and the United States Court of Appeals (3rd Circuit) from 1994 to 1996. Judge Sorokin has penned thousands of judicial decisions, his most famous cased resulted in the release of unjustly convicted Hurricane Carter and a landmark decision against the tobacco industry. Hurricane Carter died of prostate cancer and the day before he passed away, Carter called Sarokin and told him "I wanted yours to be the last voice I hear because you gave me my life back". Many of his most important cases he has sought fairer justice for people of color. Since his retirement, Sarokin has been engaged in alternate dispute resolution and has written many plays including Who is the Enemy, The Race Card Face Up and The Molestor?. Judge Sarokin currently lives in La Jolla.
