While scholars have examined K-pop through music, film, and other audiovisual media, fashion remains significantly under-researched. Moreover, existing studies tend to overlook the historical antecedents that shaped the globalization of Korean popular culture over the last two decades. To address these gaps, this international workshop on histories and cultures of South Korean fashion brings together leading scholars from history, art history, fashion studies, and popular culture. Presentations will explore such diverse themes as fashion diplomacy, the politics of clothing, and fashion shows, as well as elite and mainstream consumption. A concluding roundtable will facilitate a dialogue about the challenges and promises of global Korean fashion studies
