| 10:30 AM | Claudia Lyra Brazilian Stories and Music Come and enjoy the joyful Brazilian music and storytime. Musician Claudia Lyra brings musical instruments so that the audience can participate too!
Music and movement for kids and families with Brazilian duo, Do Re Tree. An interactive performance that includes traditional songs, movement, storytelling, percussion, and body music. The songs and storytelling are based on Brazilian oral traditions relating to aspects such as animals, nature, folktales and children's music. The percussion pieces will utilize traditional Brazilian instruments such as the berimbau and caxixi, which are handmade out of natural materials such as wood, gourds, and animal skins.
This program is part of the Summer Reading Program. San Diego residents of all ages are encouraged to Plant a Seed..Read! Sign up and complete a combination of 10 books, 10 hours of reading or complete activities to claim your incentives. Sign up begins June 1st and the program will last through August 31st. | 11:00 AM | Talk: Journey of a Persian Carpet As part of Maryam Bayat: Unrolling Paradise, this free public program offers a welcoming introduction to the art and history of Persian carpets through film, conversation, and hands-on making. Families and visitors of all ages are invited to explore the journey of a Persian carpet, from design and wool preparation to dyeing and weaving, and to learn more about the skill, tradition, and imagination carried in each work. The program features a short educational talk alongside screenings of two animated films by acclaimed Iranian artist and animator Noureddin Zarrinkelk, The Little Prince and the Magic Carpet and Amir Hamzeh. Hands-on art activities for families and children will round out the afternoon, creating an inviting space to learn, watch, and make together in connection with the exhibition.

Participants will learn how gold masks and other ceremonial objects were crafted and used to symbolize power, status, and spiritual beliefs. It was a direct and radical challenge to slavery in the U.S. The work was Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World, written by David Walker. Join Professors Matsemela Odom and Thekima Mayasa of Mesa College and Danny Widener of UCSD for a stimulating discussion of the Appeal, its status as the most radical of all anti-slavery documents, and its international call to arms against enslavement and anti-Blackness.

We invite you to take part in our Varenyky Making Day, dedicated to preparing traditional Ukrainian dumplings. It’s a volunteer effort to support the House of Ukraine. Together, we will make varenyky that will be sold during Ukrainian Festival in Balboa Park, to raise funds for our organization. About the Dish: Varenyky are traditional Ukrainian dumplings made from unleavened dough with various fillings such as potato, cheese, sauerkraut, mushrooms, or fruit. They are typically served with sour cream or fried onions — a comforting symbol of Ukrainian hospitality.

Music and movement for kids and families with Brazilian duo, Do Re Tree. An interactive performance that includes traditional songs, movement, storytelling, percussion, and body music. The songs and storytelling are based on Brazilian oral traditions relating to aspects such as animals, nature, folktales and children's music. The percussion pieces will utilize traditional Brazilian instruments such as the berimbau and caxixi, which are handmade out of natural materials such as wood, gourds, and animal skins.

| Music: Qiensave ¿Qiensave? (Quien-Sa-Be) is a Cumbia Urbana group from Salinas California with roots stretching back to Michoacán, Mexico. ¿Qiensave? creates high energy dance music that has fortunately blessed the band with the opportunity to perform throughout Californian, Arizona, Mexico, Colombia, and Virtually. While ¿Qiensave? has existed as a musical entity since 2009. Within the last few years, the band has picked up steam through touring, releasing their album “Como Ver Te” in 2016 and “Mujer” in 2019.
