| Latino Book & Family Festival The 79th Latino Book & Family Festival (LBFF) returns to North San Diego, bigger than ever. This free family-friendly event will be held in tandem with the MiraCosta STREAM Festival, offering a day full of fun activities celebrating literacy, cultura, community, and Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math. Attendees of all ages can engage with over 35 Latino authors and International Latino Book Award Winning Authors in the Authors Village, access bilingual health screenings in the Health Village provided by local health providers, and explore educational pathways in the Education Village. Highlighting the intersection of culture and craft, the Cruisin’ Village will showcase Chicano art through a curated lowrider display. Moreover, existing studies tend to overlook the historical antecedents that shaped the globalization of Korean popular culture over the last two decades. To address these gaps, this international workshop on histories and cultures of South Korean fashion brings together leading scholars from history, art history, fashion studies, and popular culture. Presentations will explore such diverse themes as fashion diplomacy, the politics of clothing, and fashion shows, as well as elite and mainstream consumption. A concluding roundtable will facilitate a dialogue about the challenges and promises of global Korean fashion studies

San Diego’s original fine art festival, Mission Fed ArtWalk, will fill the streets of San Diego’s Little Italy district with more than 250 fine artists, four music stages, interactive art for families, food and fun, Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26, 2026. This year, the 42nd annual event will bring a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture to San Diego’s Little Italy.
Mission Fed ArtWalk attracts 100,000 art collectors and visitors from all over the country to purchase art from established and emerging artists during the two-day festival. The event features artists from every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, glass work, photography, fine jewelry and more. After browsing and purchasing one-of-a-kind works of art, directly from the artists, attendees can enjoy four stages of live music, interactive art experiences, street food, family-friendly art projects at KidsWalk and more.

India offers a glimpse into this type of technological governance. The country’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has become a globally significant model for how governments can use technology to deliver services more effectively, efficiently and inclusively. In this talk, Manoj Ahuja will discuss how DPI is transforming agriculture through AgriStack and education through platforms like the Academic Bank of Credits and DIKSHA. Then, Arti Ahuja will examine how DPI is reshaping health care through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and supporting informal sector workers through the e-Shram database, linking citizens to public entitlements, skill-building and employment opportunities.

| 5:00 PM | Talk: Daily Life in Occupied France In the wake of her mother’s passing, Kitty Morse made a serendipitous discovery. In the attic of her Southern California home, she came across a little suitcase containing the journal of her great-grandfather Prosper Lévy-Neymarck documenting daily life in Occupied France. A recipe book written by her grandmother, Blanche, accompanied the journal. Tragically, Prosper and Blanche would fall victim to the Nazi genocide, but their writings survived and have now found a broader audience through the labors of their great-granddaughter. Both an invaluable primary source and a heartfelt homage to daily life in dark times, “Bitter Sweet: A Wartime Journal and Heirloom Recipes from Occupied France” (2023) reclaims their experiences and culinary acumen for posterity.

| Film: The King of Laughter Neapolitan theater for his cheeky alter egos, Scarpetta’s larger-than-life stage productions were matched only by his eccentric personal life. Composed of wives, partners, lovers, legitimate and illegitimate children (including a young Eduardo De Filippo, famed Neapolitan playwright), Scarpetta’s home situation resembled one of his comedies more than a traditional family. At the height of his popularity, the comedian risked everything by staging a parody of the great Italian poet, Gabriele D’Annunzio. Booed and hissed from the stage by younger rivals, Scarpetta was sued for plagiarism, leading to the first ever copyright lawsuit in Italy. Despite legal troubles and familial strife, Scarpetta fought not only for his craft but for his legacy as one of the great performers of Italian theater. The King of Laughter is an extraordinary movie by film and theater director Mario Martone, featuring Italian star Toni Servillo.

Audiences will be treated to a rare and captivating performance of wayang kulit, Indonesia’s renowned shadow puppet theater. This ancient art form uses hand-carved leather puppets, accompanied by a traditional gamelan ensemble, to bring to life epic tales from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. In this special presentation, celebrated shadow puppet master (dhalang) Woro Mustiko Siwi—one of the few women in Indonesia to achieve national and international acclaim in this traditionally male-dominated art form—will lead a condensed one-hour performance, thoughtfully adapted from the full six- to eight-hour format. The story, rooted in Javanese culture yet rich in universal themes, will be performed in English for the first time by an Indonesian woman puppeteer.
