| 6:00 PM | Talk: Reimagining Engineering Through Indigenous Use of Materials Vivien Papp's presentation, Reimagining Engineering Through Indigenous Use of Materials, brings Indigenous Traditional Knowledge into the materials science classroom to give future engineers a deeper perspective. She argues that by studying the cultural and technical history of materials like red cedar, bison sinew, and turquoise, students can learn that sustainability and reciprocity are just as important as structural strength. She uses traditional frameworks like the Honorable Harvest and the Full-Use Principle to show that technical problems are also human and environmental ones. As an engineering student of Indigenous heritage, Vivien is proud to share how these perspectives help us build a more ethical and connected future.

Moreover, existing studies tend to overlook the historical antecedents that shaped the globalization of Korean popular culture over the last two decades. To address these gaps, this international workshop on histories and cultures of South Korean fashion brings together leading scholars from history, art history, fashion studies, and popular culture. Presentations will explore such diverse themes as fashion diplomacy, the politics of clothing, and fashion shows, as well as elite and mainstream consumption. A concluding roundtable will facilitate a dialogue about the challenges and promises of global Korean fashion studies

San Diego’s original fine art festival, Mission Fed ArtWalk, will fill the streets of San Diego’s Little Italy district with more than 250 fine artists, four music stages, interactive art for families, food and fun, Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26, 2026. This year, the 42nd annual event will bring a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture to San Diego’s Little Italy.
Mission Fed ArtWalk attracts 100,000 art collectors and visitors from all over the country to purchase art from established and emerging artists during the two-day festival. The event features artists from every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, glass work, photography, fine jewelry and more. After browsing and purchasing one-of-a-kind works of art, directly from the artists, attendees can enjoy four stages of live music, interactive art experiences, street food, family-friendly art projects at KidsWalk and more.

| Dance: The Firebird This world premiere by resident choreographer Elizabeth Wistrich is an original ballet retelling of the story of The Firebird, a frequent feature of Russian fairy tales. Danced to Igor Stravinsky’s famous and beloved score, the story begins at a large party where a beautiful young girl, who possesses special mystical powers she doesn’t yet understand, is struggling to please her overbearing father. She begins to imagine a new and different life where she can be free to explore her dreams and find love. As her thoughts become stronger, she finds herself magically transitioning into a powerful creature and she can enter a whole new realm of existence where she can be wherever she desires to pursue her future and find the love of her life. Her journey is not an easy one. Finding peace, love, and harmony is more challenging than she ever imagined with powers that threaten to overwhelm her.

From there, this exciting new, and creatively fulfilling, endeavor began to take shape, which led to the release of the band’s eponymous debut album, Mariachi El Bronx (I), in September of 2009. The album would lead to praise by both critics and fans alike due to the band’s precise attention to detail and musically authentic take on the form.

Born in New York City on August 2, 1924, this year marks the centennial of the eminent writer, a momentous occasion that is celebrated by the release of one of Meshell Ndegeocello’s most intrepid efforts to date: No More Water: The Gospel Of James Baldwin. With No More Water, Ndegeocello embarks on a prophetic musical odyssey that transcends boundaries and genres, delving headfirst into race, sexuality, religion, and other recurring themes explored in the celebrated writer’s canon.
