The exhibition features approximately 120 glass art objects created by twenty-nine Native American artists, four Pacific Rim artists from New Zealand and Australia, and glass artist Dale Chihuly. It explores how Indigenous artists fuse heritage and contemporary glassmaking to illuminate their stories, connection to nature, and cultural traditions.

| NOON | Talk and Fundraiser: Reimagining Border Infrastructure: Lessons from CBX The San Diego World Affairs Council presents their annual members meeting & luncheon: “Reimagining Border Infrastructure: Lessons from CBX" with Eduardo Schutte Join us for a special luncheon event featuring a keynote address by Eduardo Schutte, Chief Commercial Officer of Cross Border Express (CBX) and hosted by KPBS journalist Gustavo Solis. This year’s Annual Membership Meeting will center on the timely theme, “Reimagining Border Infrastructure: Lessons from CBX.” As a senior leader at CBX, Eduardo Schutte will share insights into how the organization has transformed regional connectivity by linking San Diego directly to Tijuana International Airport through a unique binational terminal. His remarks will explore what the CBX model can teach us about the future of border infrastructure, mobility, economic integration, and cross-border collaboration. Gustavo Solis, an award-winning journalist covering the U.S.–Mexico border region for KPBS, will host the conversation, bringing his deep expertise and on-the-ground perspective to guide a dynamic and engaging discussion. With more than 30 years of experience across the travel and hospitality industries, Eduardo has held leadership roles in sales, business development, revenue management, and distribution at organizations including Grupo Posadas, TravelClick, LXR, Hilton, and Amadeus. | 5:00 PM | Food: Chinese Pulled Noodles In this hands-on class, students will learn the art of traditional Chinese pulled noodles (lā miàn) alongside the preparation of a versatile “mother sauce” that forms the backbone of countless noodle dishes. Participants will explore dough development, gluten structure, and the rhythmic pulling technique that transforms a simple mixture of flour, water, and salt into long, elastic strands of noodles. The class culminates in assembling a complete dish, pairing freshly pulled noodles with a deeply flavored, adaptable sauce. Chinese pulled noodles trace their origins back over 4,000 years, with early evidence found during the Han Dynasty. Lā miàn, meaning “pulled noodles,” became especially prominent in Northern China, where wheat-based foods dominate. Over time, noodle-making evolved into both a culinary craft and a performance art, with skilled chefs stretching dough into hundreds of strands in a matter of seconds. The concept of a “mother sauce” reflects a broader Chinese cooking philosophy: mastering foundational sauces allows for endless variation across regional cuisines.

Lisa See is the New York Times bestselling author of Lady Tan's Circle of Women, The Island of Sea Women, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, Shanghai Girls, China Dolls, and Dreams of Joy, which debuted at #1. She is also the author of On Gold Mountain, which tells the story of her Chinese American family's settlement in Los Angeles. See was the recipient of the Golden Spike Award from the Chinese Historical Association of Southern California and the Historymaker's Award from the Chinese American Museum. She was also named National Woman of the Year by the Organization of Chinese American Women. In 1870, three Chinese women arrive in the small, dusty, and violent pueblo of Los Angeles. Dove, the bound-footed daughter of an imperial scholar, is entrancing and innocent. These characteristics should bring her great rewards, beginning with her arranged marriage to a much older merchant. Petal, the big-footed daughter of peasants, has grown up hungry and with dirt between her toes. In a moment of desperation, Petal's father sells her to buy money for rice seed, and she is loaded onto a ship to the Gold Mountain—America—where she is once again sold. Moon is married to a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. She is educated, speaks fluent English, and has been endowed with a face of great beauty, yet her failed footbinding as a child has left her with a limp that lessens her value in the eyes of many. Each woman has her own desires. Dove wants to love and be loved, Petal desires freedom, and Moon seeks justice. Together they face a larger society that wishes them not one ounce of good will. Anti-Chinese sentiment is strong in Los Angeles, and this eventually leads to the Night of Horrors during which all three women are challenged in ways they could not have imagined. Brought together by hardship and heartbreak, they must use their bravery, endurance, and ability to "eat bitterness" to discover their voices, find freedom, and connect through solace and friendship. Together they are daughters of the sun and moon.

| House of USA Lawn Program The annual lawn program is always held on the Fourth of July or the nearest Sunday to the holiday. The entertainment for this program consists, but not limited to, American traditional folk, country, rock-n-roll, jazz music, patriotic songs, and reading of poems by American authors. The program is held on the HPR International Cottages Stage. Any costumes worn as Uncle Sam colonial men or women, American Revolutionary War soldiers, the west frontier’s cowboys or cowgirls and/or any American historic figures amuse and entertain the audience.

Today, however, the region faces a growing environmental and public health crisis as untreated sewage, industrial pollutants, and contaminated stormwater flow through the watershed and into coastal communities. The impacts are far-reaching. Beach closures, public health concerns, environmental degradation, economic losses, and strained cross-border relationships have affected residents, businesses, and ecosystems throughout the San Diego-Tijuana region. While the challenges are significant, they also underscore the need for innovative solutions, regional cooperation, and sustained binational engagement. Join the San Diego World Affairs Council for a timely discussion exploring one of the most pressing transboundary issues facing our region today. Poisoned Waters: The Tijuana River Crisis and the Future of Cross-Border Cooperation will bring together leaders and experts from both sides of the border to examine the crisis from environmental, public health, community, economic, and binational perspectives. Together, panelists will explore the root causes of the crisis, the impacts on affected communities, current efforts to address the problem, and opportunities for greater collaboration among government agencies, community organizations, researchers, and residents. Just as she receives the call that could change her career, she’s pulled back to her childhood home, where she’s once again the “disappointing” daughter of her Asian immigrant parents, still haunted by an unresolved secret. Mia must learn to use her voice to confront and heal from the past. In 2017, MILCK and AG’s “Quiet” became a viral sensation around the world as an anthem of the Women’s March. That same spirit inspired them and acclaimed playwright Sam Chanse to draw on each of their personal stories to create The Family Album, a humorous and poignant original musical about finding and reclaiming your voice and using it for change. Commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse, The Family Album features a soulful power-pop score by MILCK and AG.
