Chico Pinheiro Group with special guest Bob Mintzer on tenor sax. Pinheiro previously appeared at the Athenaeum Art Studio in 2007 in a quartet co-led with guitarist Anthony Wilson. Pinheiro?s current band includes four top Brazilian musicians: vocalist Luciana Alves, drummer Edu Ribeiro, bassist Paulo Paulelli, and keyboardist Fabio Torres. His 2010 CD release, There?s A Storm Inside, features the group along with special guests Dianne Reeves and Bob Mintzer. JazzTimes wrote, ?Pinheiro's charms as a vocalist, guitarist and composer are hard to resist: imagine a young Chet Baker with Luiz Bonfa's chops and Marcos Valle?s aching sense of melody. Add in a feisty rhythm section, and Luciana Alves and Bob Mintzer, and you get a record that will have you surrendering with a ?Yes, yes, yes.?? Brazil?s largest newspaper, O Estado De Sao Paulo, commented, ?Chico Pinheiro creates an album that definitely puts him in the same league as Jobim and Edu Lobo. If Brazil could be translated through music nowadays, it would be something coming from Pinheiro's guitar.? This concert reunites Pinheiro with Mintzer, well known as a member of the Yellowjackets and as the leader of his own Grammy-winning big band.
