Malashock's Floating World

Uncategorized Download To My Calendar
In conjunction with the exhibition Dreams and Diversions, Malashock Dance will present a multi-disciplinary performance of dance, music, and video projection, celebrating some of the narratives from these Japanese woodblock prints. The exhibition is comprised of a type of print called ukiyo-e, which translates to ?pictures of the floating world.? The Floating World will re-imagine these prints and showcase them on enormous, in-the-round, screens, while telling the story of 13 Views of the Dance Company on Tour. In addition to the choreography of John Malashock, The Floating World will feature the work of video artist Tara Knight, the musical scoring of Zoe Keating, and costumes designed by Zandra Rhodes. By mixing the artistry of the historical prints with meticulously crafted contemporary dance, music, and costuming, old worlds will be blended with new ones for a completely unique experience.
